Road Works AheadRed triangle warning sign. First sign encountered, placed at the advance warning distance for the road's speed limit.
Speed RoundelsNot a standard part of setting out minor works - the CoP 2013 setting-out table (D, T, L, S, E) does not include placing a speed limit sign. The road's existing limit is already permanently signed by the highway authority. A speed roundel is only placed on site where a temporary mandatory speed limit has been authorised by a Traffic Regulation Order - that sign and its position come from your manager/the order, not from this app.
Approach speed on the groundCheck the actual approach speed on site (not just the posted limit) as part of your risk assessment - the setout dimensions assume traffic is moving at, or close to, the existing limit.
Road Narrows (Both Sides)Triangle sign showing the carriageway narrowing from both sides — used for the standard lane closure layout.
Keep Right / Keep LeftCircular blue sign. Arrow must always point AWAY from the works, directing traffic into the open running lane.

Governing DocumentsSetup guidance in this app follows the "Safety at Street Works" Code of Practice 2013 and the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8. These documents take precedence over this app in the event of any discrepancy.
RecordsA site record (crew, permit reference, GPS location, photographs and time) should be kept for every job and retained per your company's record-keeping policy.
Temporary Traffic SignalsNot covered by this app's automated guidance. Refer to your manager and the Chapter 8 reference guide before installing temporary traffic lights.
Bends & Restricted Sight LinesWhere visibility is reduced, standard distances may not be sufficient. Refer to manager before proceeding.
Night-Time & Unattended SitesWarning lights must be fitted to cones/barriers at the taper and works boundary. Check local lighting-up times. Unattended sites overnight require illuminated warning lamps to remain in place and functioning.
Temporary Speed Limits
A temporary mandatory speed limit is NOT something to impose on site. Per Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8 Part 1 (Section D3.7) and the Part 3 Update (2020, Section U2.9-U2.10), it requires a Traffic Regulation Order from the highway authority, or in an emergency an order under section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, based on a proper risk assessment. This app shows the road's existing speed limit as reference only - it never instructs a temporary limit.
The 2020 update is explicit: a reduced limit must not be applied just on the assumption that it "feels safer" or improves traffic flow - it must be justified by identifiable risk to road users, and a lower limit is not automatically safer. Old rules of thumb (such as a blanket 20 mph reduction) are no longer considered adequate; each scheme needs its own assessment.
If a limit is already in force by order: it is generally sited 50 m before the first sign (Road Narrows or lane closure), and extends to about 45 m past the last cone on a single carriageway or 90 m on a dual carriageway. Temporary limits should not normally be used for lengths under 400 m (single carriageway) or 800 m (dual carriageway), and must be removed once no longer needed - a limit cannot be left in place just to justify keeping traffic management up.
If in doubt, or if a job seems to need a temporary limit, refer to your manager and the highway authority before proceeding.

Using it does not make anyone qualified: you must hold current NRSWA accreditation (or the equivalent required in your region) and work within your employer's safe systems of work. If you are not qualified to set out signing, lighting and guarding, do not rely on this app to do so.
What ConesOut is - and is not. ConesOut turns your selections into a suggested setup based on published UK guidance. It is a planning and memory aid, nothing more. It cannot see your site. Every job needs its own risk assessment, and a competent person must walk the site and confirm the setup before work starts. Where anything in this app differs from the Safety at Street Works Code of Practice (2013), the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8, current legislation, or an instruction for your specific site, those sources win - always. In Northern Ireland, follow the corresponding NI legislation and TSR(NI).
Your responsibilities. You are responsible for the decisions you make on site, for checking that ConesOut's output suits the actual conditions in front of you, and for stopping and referring to your manager whenever something on site does not match what the app assumes - bends, restricted visibility, signals, high-speed dual carriageways and motorways included.

That is the only personal information sent to our servers by this app. We do not run adverts, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
What stays on your device. GPS location used in Walk-Out mode, site photos, crew names and site records are processed on your device only. They are placed into the PDF you generate and are not uploaded to us. Your login session is saved on your device so you stay signed in; tapping Sign Out removes it.
Where account data is held. Account records are stored with our database provider (Supabase) and are kept only for as long as your account is active or as the law requires.
Your rights. Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and its data. Contact your account administrator or email Courseway Ltd at coursewayinfo@gmail.com to make a request.
Changes. If ConesOut starts collecting anything new - for example usage statistics to improve the app - this notice will be updated first and the change will be flagged in the app.
